You should check out the Cochlear Implant Association's website at http://www.cici.org/ There is more info there on the implants.

I just heard that the 1995 Miss America, Heather Whitestone McCallum had a cochlear implant. She's 29, just had a baby, and one day it fell, started crying, and she couldn't hear it-- and then she decided to get this implant. I've heard that it sends signals directly to the brain. How does it work really?
