In the news today:Test Achieves Cholesterol BreakthroughI would really love to receive the new HDL enhancer drug that has been discovered and experimented with lately. My problem is that the statin drugs cause bad side effects, especially in raising the liver enzyme(GGT). When I took zocor three years ago, I have had trouble trying to keep the one liver enzyme below 60. Also, I had other side effects from zocor, so I can't take those things. I am hoping that the HDL drug won't adversely effect the liver either, and that the route they take will work for me. BTW, the zocor lowered my HDL right along with the LDL, so it didn't help that much. Right now I just take plant sterols and eat low fat. I am really interested in this new approach to "cleaning out arteries." I am 65 and in fairly good health for my age with cholesterol that varies between 180 to 225, depending on what I have been eating before the blood test.
