    Body1 Remembers Victims

    September 27, 2001

    September 27, 2001

We at the Body1 Network would like to extend heartfelt sympathies to the friends and families of the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks. We were especially saddened to learn about the passing of Lisa Raines, Thomas Burnett, and Donald DiTullio, respected members of the biomedical industry whom we were fortunate enough to know both personally and professionally.

Lisa Raines was the senior vice president of government relations for Genzyme Corporation. She had worked for the company since 1993. Ms. Raines, 42, was on American Airlines Flight 77 out of Washington, DC. To read more about Ms. Raines, click here.

Thoratec Corporation lost its senior vice president and chief operating officer, Thomas E. Burnett, Jr., who was on board United Airlines Flight 93 out of Newark, NJ. Mr. Burnett, 38, is believed to have helped divert the airplane from its intended target. The plane crashed instead in a rural area outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Thoratec released a statement about Mr. Burnett.

Donald DiTullio is remembered by Smith + Nephew Endoscopy as an “I’ll-do-anything-for-anybody-at-a-moment’s-notice” type of person. Mr. DiTullio was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11 out of Boston. Smith + Nephew Endoscopy expresses its condolences here.

Please join us in reaching out to the companies affected, and to the medical technology community at-large as it looks for new solutions in responding to medical emergencies worldwide.
